Trichilia emetica whole seeds were refluxed in water for twenty minutes and the extract subjected to column chromatography. The mass spectrum of the isolated compound in negative ion mode showed a parent molecular ion peak at m/z 219 which corresponds to the molecular formula of C₁₅H₂₄O. The structure was characterized by means of Infrared (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectroscopy. And the comparison of the ¹H and ¹³C NMR data with that reported in the literature. Finally, the structure of the compound was confirmed by X-ray crystallography.
